LaBante London is a labour of love, born out of a combined love of animals, fashion and the wider planet. My adolescent experiences definitely stuck with me and shaped the brand’s philosophy of Fashion With Respect.
In my early teens I spent many happy hours in my uncle’s fashion company, watching the creation of beautiful garments for big name fashion brands and therein started my love of fashion. When I was a little older and studying at university, another pivotal moment shaped my future. I used to pass a butcher’s shop where animals were kept alive and caged before being killed in front of customers for their meat. It was a pretty transforming and life-changing event in my life and from that moment I became a vegetarian. After I finished my university degree I landed up in the United States and somehow got into banking for my career, but there was always a niggling thought in the back of my head that called me to combine my passion for vegetarianism and fashion. I believed there was a gap in the fashion industry to make high quality products that were not only beautiful and vied for, but were also cruelty free and sustainable at the same time being accessible.
LaBante London started out really small in 2009 but grew from strength to strength as we received so much positive feedback and love from vegans, vegetarians, animal lovers and fashionistas all over the world. As we continued to expand, we had the pleasure of meeting fashion buyers who understood that change was coming and that the future was about ethics and sustainability.
Encouraged and inspired, our brand has flourished it’s my promise to you that we will continue to develop beautiful and stunning designs and provide you with a range of vegan accessories all made with love that we hope you will wear with pride!

Landfills occupy 55% of our planet. So, we only use recycled materials in our handbags, we have already saved 10 million bottles from hitting the landfills.
Where we could see the Great Barrier Reef from Space a few years ago, now all we see is a great convergence of rubbish in the Pacific Ocean which in turn impacts our sea life. Sea animals such as turtles are attracted to the plastics, which is then consumed as food because they think this is Jellyfish. This impacts the body which is unable to dispose the plastic, leaving them constantly full eventually die of starvation.
At LaBante London the state of our environment is of utmost importance to us. Our small contribution in reducing plastic ending up in our oceans is by using recycled polyester for the interior in all our handbags. Recycled polyester is made by breaking down single use plastic bottles (PET bottles) into pellets, these are then melted, cooled and spun into yarn. So instead of using new fabrics, which waste water we use this recycled fabric, which prevents more plastic from being dumped into landfills or our oceans. We also use recycled fabrics for our dust bags, and our paper swing tags are recycled as well as recyclable. LaBante London’s range of sunglasses are made from 100% recycled wood and are packaged in bamboo, the cardboard boxes are also environmentally friendly. We have a zero waste © packaging system.
“The world will grow more prosperous if people shared what little they have rather than hoard everything for themselves.”

Animals are important to life as we know it. There’s a huge imbalance in the environment today because we have taken from it but not given anything back. No animal needs to be killed to enjoy luxurious fashion.
We have proved time and time again that cruelty need not go hand in hand with beauty. Each of our collections are made from beautiful recycled fabrics, fine vegan leather like Luxe Polyeuthrane, microfibre and recycled vegetable fibres.
No animal based dyes and glues are used in our manufacturing process. We are a Peta Approved Vegan brand, which means we have signed a document stating that we do not and will never use animal based ingredients in our products and we stand committed to our promise! What this implies is that our suppliers are also held to a strict code of keeping an audit trail on all our accessories used in our manufacturing process – guaranteeing that our products always stay cruelty free and vegan just the way we like them.
We are committed to empowering women worldwide, which is why our design and production team is 99% women
We manufacture in Guangzhou, China in a sweatshop free environment. Guangzhou is one of the richest province of China and is a huge contrast to what the working conditions that existed 15-20 years ago. Now it has one of the highest purchasing powers in the world and the workers especially in Guangzhou are paid very high wages to cover their living expenses.
We love our workers – so we also ensure that our seamstresses also get maternity cover when they decide to have children. Their well being is important to us so we only work with factories that have SEDEX certification. In addition our founder and design team regularly visit our factories to perform spot checks and social audits as part of our due diligence processes, to ensure the products continue to be made in a safe and ethical environment and, we continually check payroll, attendance sheets, so no working double shifts, something that we are very proud of.
There are no animal-based glues in any of our products.
We try to create a circular use of items so instead of wastage we reuse our own waste and push the boundaries of sustainability. As such we use only two kinds of faux leather, both of which are in sync with the larger environment.
Vegetable leather is a byproduct of vegetable waste, instead of it going to a landfill, this is recycled to make a form refined material which looks and behaves like real leather. This material is used in our premium collections for exclusive collaborations with department stores. Please watch the website for more details of these collections.
